Do you remember this beautiful song "We Are the World"?
"We Are the World" is a song for charity originally recorded by the United Support of Artists for Africa in 1985. It was written by Michael Jackson and Lionel Richie and produced by Quincy Jones.
Listening to this song reminds me of a time over 35 years ago when there was little understanding about the cause of AIDS and transmission of the HIV virus, and with no antiviral drugs available to treat and prevent HIV from spreading. Today, a person living with HIV who takes HIV medicine as prescribed and gets and stays virally suppressed can stay healthy and has effectively no risk of sexually transmitting HIV to HIV-negative partners. All this is made possible by the incredible breakthroughs in the understanding of HIV and the transmission of the virus, and in the prevention and treatment of HIV and AIDS throughout the world.
Although there has been great progress over several decades, much more still needs to be done for everyone infected with the virus or living with AIDS as "We are the world".
